Q?
Besides the obvious water waste, is there any harm to draining my pool?
-
A.
Yes!
• The interior finish of a swimming pool is a critical and expensive part of a pool. Plaster (quartz/pebble) is designed to be wet. Drying plaster out can be detrimental to the surface of the pool. When a pool is drained, this is unavoidable. Even if a pool is drained and refilled quickly the top step can be dry for 24-36 hours. This will shorten the life of the plaster.
• Acid washes are extremely harmful. During an acid wash, an aggressive mixture of acid and water is poured over the entire surface of the pool. This process essentially removes part of the outer layer of cement from the surface, shortening the life of the plaster.• One of the worst things that can possibly happen to a pool is popping out of the ground. Your pool is meant to have water in it! Once the weight of the water is lifted, the pressure from the ground can cause the pool shell to lift up out of the ground. This is an extremely expensive problem. Usually the entire pool needs to be ripped out and rebuilt.
